Looking for EV Charger Installation in Exeter?
Charging an electric vehicle through a standard three-pin plug socket is slow, inconvenient, and — for extended high-draw charging sessions — not recommended for a domestic socket outlet that was not designed for sustained load over many hours. A dedicated 7kW home charge point, installed on its own 32A circuit direct from your consumer unit, changes the experience entirely: most electric vehicles are fully charged by morning, running on a scheduled overnight tariff that costs a fraction of peak-rate electricity.
As an OZEV-approved installer, we apply the government EV Homecharge grant automatically for eligible properties — deducting it from your installation cost rather than requiring you to claim it separately. We check eligibility at the survey stage and confirm whether your property qualifies before any work is booked.
Every installation starts with an assessment of your consumer unit, the available supply capacity, earthing arrangements, and the cable route to the proposed charger location. Properties on PME supplies (the most common domestic arrangement) require additional protective earthing devices per BS 7671 Amendment 2 — we include this as standard where needed, not as an unexpected extra.
Under the EV Smart Charging regulations in force since June 2022, all new domestic charge point installations in Great Britain must be smart units with scheduling and monitoring capability. Every charger we install meets this requirement — giving you app control, off-peak scheduling, and energy monitoring as standard.
EV Charging Services We Cover
From straightforward home charge point installations to more complex multi-vehicle and business setups across Exeter and Devon.
Home 7kW smart charger installation
The standard residential installation. A 32A dedicated circuit from your consumer unit to a smart wall-mounted charge point. Includes all earthing works and commissioning.
Business charge point installation
Commercial installations for offices, car parks, and business premises. We assess supply capacity, advise on the number and type of units, and quote for the full installation.
Dedicated EV circuit installation
The dedicated circuit is as important as the charger itself. Correctly sized cable, MCB or RCBO protection at the board, and compliant earthing are all part of every installation.
Load management systems
If your supply capacity is limited, load management ensures the EV charger does not cause the supply fuse to blow by automatically reducing charge rate when other loads are high.
Solar-compatible EV charging
Some smart chargers can integrate with solar PV systems, maximising the use of self-generated electricity for vehicle charging. We advise on compatible units and installation requirements.
OZEV grant applications
We handle the OZEV grant paperwork for eligible installations. The grant is deducted from your installation cost — you do not need to claim it separately.
CT clamp installation
Current transformer (CT) clamps allow load management systems and some smart chargers to monitor household electricity use in real time, enabling more intelligent charge scheduling.
App-controlled smart chargers
Every charger we install meets the smart charging regulation requirement — giving you scheduling, monitoring, and control via your smartphone as standard.
Who We Help
Homeowners
Whether you have just taken delivery of your first electric vehicle or you have owned one for a while and are tired of relying on public chargers, a home charge point transforms everyday EV ownership. We handle the full installation from survey to commissioning, confirm OZEV grant eligibility upfront, and most installations in Exeter are completed within a week of booking.
Landlords
EV chargers are becoming a genuine differentiator in Exeter's rental market, particularly for professional tenants. The OZEV Landlord Grant provides funding for eligible installations. We work with landlords to assess suitability, install between tenancies, and provide all documentation. Where multiple units in a development require chargers, we can advise on shared load management solutions.
Businesses
Providing EV charging for staff or customers is increasingly expected. The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) provides up to £350 per socket for eligible businesses. We assess your premises' electrical supply, advise on the right number and rating of chargers, and design a system that will not overload your existing infrastructure. From single-bay installations to multi-bay car parks, we can help.

How to Book Your EV Charger Installation
Call us on 01392 703127
Tell us about your property, your vehicle, and where you want the charger installed. We will ask a few questions about your consumer unit and supply to assess whether a survey is needed first.
Survey and fixed quote
An OZEV-approved, NICEIC-registered engineer visits to assess your consumer unit, supply capacity, earthing arrangements, and cable route. A fixed installation quote is provided and OZEV eligibility is confirmed.
Booking confirmed
Pay your booking deposit to secure your installation date. We prepare the OZEV grant documentation alongside your booking for eligible properties.
Installation, commissioning, and certification
Your engineer installs the charger, runs the dedicated circuit, completes all earthing works, commissions and tests the unit, and issues all certification. Grant documentation is submitted on your behalf.
Why NICEIC Registration Matters for EV Chargers
EV charger installation is notifiable electrical work under Part P of the Building Regulations. Only a registered competent person — such as a NICEIC-registered electrician — can self-certify the work to Building Control. Without this, you would need to separately notify your local authority and pay for a Building Inspector to verify the installation.
The OZEV grant scheme additionally requires the use of an OZEV-approved installer. Using an unregistered installer means you are ineligible for the government grant — potentially leaving £350 on the table. It also means the installation cannot be self-certified under Part P.
EV chargers draw significant sustained current over many hours — a load profile quite different from most domestic appliances. The installation must be sized, protected, and earthed correctly for safe long-term operation. NICEIC-registered engineers understand these requirements and install to the current edition of BS 7671, including Amendment 2's specific requirements for EV charging on PME supplies.
